12/4/2020 0 Comments Progress Update - 12/4/2020As the fall 2020 semester comes to a close, the TCNJ Solar Splash team is working to complete two major aspects of the TCNJ Senior Project curriculum. The first of these aspects in the Senior Project 1 Report. This is a large paper intended to record and present all of the work completed through out the fall semester. The second major aspect is the design presentation to the TCNJ Engineering faculty and students. The visuals of this presentation from 12/2/2020 is attached below. The team would like to once again thank our team advisors Dr. Asper, Dr. Yang, and Regina Cadillac for their continuing support and advice on the project.
11/4/2020 0 Comments Progress Update - 11/4/2020As the fall 2020 semester comes into its last month, the team is working hard to prepare for the winter break. Over the winter break the team hopes to move from the design stage to the manufacturing and implementing phase. This leaves a lot of work left to do before the team can provide the designs to the staff in the machine shop. This work includes refinement of current ideas, creation of technical drawings, testing validity of calculations, and simplification of schematics. This work comes as the first senior project class draws to a close as the final paper and presentations of the project's growth are close to due. Despite these impending deadlines the team is thrilled to be granted the money from the TCNJ School of Engineering to finally officially enter into the 2021 Solar Splash competition in the coming days. The team would like to once again thank everyone involved in the project from the advisors to all of the student volunteer who help every day. We also have created an Instagram account for people to stay up to date with progress. This new account is linked under the contact tab above.
9/25/2020 0 Comments Progress Update 1 - 9/25/2020The 2020 Solar Splash team was able to get access to the senior project space in the TCNJ S.T.E.M. building to asses the current state of the 2019-2020 boat. This was a result of TCNJ's administration, staff advisors, and machine shop staff's willingness to be open and helpful to senior project students during these confusing times. In particular the team would like to thank out staff advisors Professor Asper and Dr. Yan in addition to our machine shop coordinator Joe Zanetti, and the interim dean of engineering Steve O'Brien. During this lab time the team was able to measure, weigh, test, and catalog key components. This will help the team remain socially distant while we work on the design, debugging, and budget work until we can get into the project space again. The 2020-2021 Solar Splash Team presented initial plans for updates to the competition boat to colleagues and staff advisors on September 2nd. This is the first large deadline that the team needed to meet and the group met the challenge exceptionally well. The accompanying presentation visuals have been attached below. Weekly meetings continue as the semester and the project gathers momentum. The team is also reaching out to the TCNJ community for additional assistance in the design and construction phase. Any interested parties can reach the group at [email protected].
